This July 4th, 2026, marks 250 years since the Declaration of Independence was signed and the United States of America was officially formed. For many, this is a day of both celebration and deep contradiction. As millions across the country celebrate “Independence Day,” millions remain incarcerated, locked into oppressive systems, detention camps, and slave labor within this country.
At this moment, we are witnessing severe cuts to our fundamental human rights, people being kidnapped by masked militias, families being separated and destroyed, devastating global wars, cultural and environmental degradation, a deeply inequitable and unsustainable economy, and so much more.
Whether you are taking this 4th of July to rest and relax, celebrate with your folks, or add some books to your reading list- Sister Warriors invites you to take some time to reflect and commit to building a better and inclusive future for all.
We also invite you to head to www.SisterWarriors.org/freedom_charter to read through and sign on to our Freedom Charter!
Sister Warriors Freedom Coalition offices will be closed from July 6th – July 10th. We are using this time to take some intentional time to rest and reset. We will be back in action and ready to get to work the following week, on Monday July 13th.
