About

Sister Warriors Freedom Coalition was born out of the Young Women’s Freedom Center. This initiative began in 2017 with a gathering in Oakland where impacted leaders discussed their most pressing concerns: how to best empower women, girls, and trans people who have experienced incarceration, poverty, violence, and life on the streets.

Since then, we have pushed for real change in our communities and demanded to be heard and included in decisions that shape our lives. We are building the political power of poor and working-class people.

As survivors of systems and institutions that seek to control us, we know that those closest to the problem are also closest to the solutions. When we come together, we can break cycles of harm and create lasting, transformative change.
Through grassroots organizing, leadership development, and policy advocacy, we break down barriers to justice and build pathways to healing and restoration.
Sister Warriors is leading change for gender justice. Our work has driven landmark reforms that protect incarcerated people, expand alternatives to incarceration, and ensure system-impacted voices lead the fight for justice. Together, we are building a future where women and trans people can live with dignity, safety, and self-determination.

Join us in ending cycles of incarceration and creating lasting change.
